Learn more about Yellow September

It's a campaign created with the aim of informing and preventing people about suicide, This practice is usually motivated by depression.

It began in Brazil in 2015 with the Center for the Appreciation of Life (CVV), Federal Council of Medicine (CFM) and the Brazilian Psychiatric Association (ABP). Worldwide on September 10th is also World Suicide Prevention Day. This date was created in 2003 by the International Association for Suicide Prevention and the World Health Organization.

For the cause, the best way to promote the appreciation of life and suicide prevention is through dialogues and discussions that address the problem. Even so, we are trying to create various options to help raise awareness among the population and professionals in the field.

This movement was created with the aim of creating various actions to inform and raise awareness about suicide prevention. Are you helping to spread the word?

The importance of talking

Although it's a delicate subject, it's essential that we talk about it and actions to prevent it.

The first preventive measure promoted in Yellow September is education. For a long time this was a taboo subject and, with the help of the campaign, little by little this barrier is being broken down.

Today, information on the subject has become more widely shared, giving people access to prevention resources. We also share the main causes and ways to help

We must remember to talk about the subject responsibly, in line with the recommendations of the health authorities.

How can we help?

First we must be able to identify the warning signs that the person emits. For example, if you notice that a person is becoming more disinterested (even in the activities they used to enjoy), is isolating themselves from friends and family, doesn't care about their daily activities or mentions a lot of phrases related to death, these could be signs that they need help.

If you can talk, a listening position is recommended without making judgments or opinions on the subject. Also, make it clear that you only want to help and we can't diminish or measure the other person's pain.

It is also recommended to encourage the search for specialized help. On the other hand, it is essential that family and close friends are aware of the situation, so that the person is welcomed and encouraged to seek help.

Remember that psychological and family help is essential. In Brazil we have CVV, a project that provides emotional support and suicide prevention. Through telephone, e-mail and chat 24 hours a day, every day of the week, they provide voluntary and free assistance to anyone who needs to talk.. The service is completely confidential. Just go to https://www.cvv.org.br/ or dial 188.
